About the materials

I use high grade steels forged, shaped and heat treated to the intended blade purpose. The geometry of the blade is always considered to ensure that the form follows function. The steels used to create the blades also have use in a wide variety of industrial applications from aircraft bearings to razors.

The blade steel types for knives are generally referred to as either stainless steel or carbon steel. Broadly speaking stainless steel contains more chromium and as the name suggests does not stain. High carbon steel and carbon tool steels do not have high amounts of chromium and will rust if left wet for long periods. The trade off is that carbon steel is easier to sharpen and outperforms stainless steel. Both have a high carbon content and will hold a fine edge.

The handle material is first selected for it's unique figuring or grain then stabilized in a resin to create a handle that is moisture resistant, tough, dense and takes a fine polish. Using local handle materials when available has the benefit of not relying on tropical hardwoods.

Knife care

Carbon steels are widely chosen for the fine long lasting edge they hold and will form a dull grey patina through use which protects the blade. Simply wash as normal after use and wipe dry this will allow your knife to form a protective patina.

Store it dry and clean as this will help to preserve it’s look and function and should not be left sitting wet. To clean unwanted staining lay the blade flat on a chopping board and using a rough sided sponge scrub with extreme care as the blade is sharp. To maintain a handle apply a food safe wax and rub with a clean cloth. Camellia Oil is ideal for using on the knife blade as it is food safe. You can use any food safe oil but beware some can become rancid over time.

About the maker

With a past in steel work, welding and design it was not until creating and designing knives that I felt satisfied. For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to create and fuelled by the fact that I have always been involved in the world of design and steel it has led me to making knives. My goal has been and always will be to create the best work possible.

Creating a knife that can last a lifetime and will have its own history is always rewarding.
